The Lander Gallery offers an astonishing range of fine art from four centuries with a rich Cornish flavour.

Works are for sale at prices ranging from under a hundred pounds to thousands.

You are invited to come to see the pictures in the gallery or visit the website for an overview of our continuing exhibitions of classic Cornish art.

If you are looking for exactly the right picture for your wall or have a favourite artist; if you are looking to invest for the first time, or are an established collector, we may be able to help.

We can often find things for you and have art works delivered across the world. Cornwall has been a centre for art since John Opie in the eighteenth century.

The arrival of the railway brought countless artists down to explore the celebrated Cornish beauty spots: Polperro, Newquay, Tintagel and the like. Some picturesque places attracted numbers of artists who formed groups loosely known as SCHOOLS - notably Newlyn, Lamorna, St. Ives and Falmouth.

Featured Poster:

Trip to Cornwall  - currently available at the Lander Gallery 1 September 2011

In the bygone age of steam trains and the Great Western Railway, Cornwall featured on many of its posters to advertise its services to the South West. This framed poster of the image of clean sandy beaches, set against dramatic cliffs, frothing waves and the obligatory clear blue sky is a timeless image of Cornwall's coastline. This is the picture without the wording which was to be added later for a poster simply called Cornwall. We are advised that this appears to be the proof copy of the picture, printed to give the publicity team something to work with. The poster was subsequently printed with wording.
It has the GWR branded stamp  on the back. This suggests that the picture was shown at a railway station. The old label on the front supports this idea. Paddington Station would be a likely location.
Provenance Malcolm Guest collection. Guest was employed in the publicity department at Paddington Station.
